Beautifully Cruel by J.T. Geissinger
5.0
Outstanding audiobook! It definitely enhanced my experience with this book. I read and loved the queens and monsters series by this author, not knowing that this duet existed as a prequel of sorts. Colour me happy when I discovered this. It had a similar feel to Q&M but was slightly less dark. I am a sucker for a shy but feisty heroine who doesn’t put up with any crap from anyone but also has a deep sweetness to her. Pair her up with an enigmatic and tortured Irish mobster and watch your kindle catch fire.
This was very good, I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed Tru and Liam together. There were some good twists and turns and some really hot sex scenes but less gore and graphic violence than the sequel series.
There was some melodrama with his background, which is pretty typical of these books and I would have loved to have seen more chapters from his point of view but I’m very happy I finally used one of my credits to listen to this one.
Side note: Proust is Liam’s favourite author and was mentioned repeatedly in the book and yet both narrators pronounced his name Prowst, like the prow of a ship. Guys, it’s pronounced Proost because the dude is French and the Ou sound in French is oooooo. My ears hurt every time it happened. Especially in Liam’s voice, a huge fan of Proust would know how to say his name.
