disclaimer: i am a pjo fan, so my review is skewed in favor.

i am re-reading this series after not reading it since the first time i picked up these books when i was a kid. not many middle-grade series hold up for adult audiences, but i this one does well. the writing itself is clearly for younger audiences, but it doesn’t sound dumbed-down. as a narrator, percy is funny and genuine, with quick one-liners and sarcastic comments, but they don’t feel forced. i’ve seen many new authors try to achieve the “sarcastic” main character and fail- this is not one of those times. i usually am not a fan of first-person POV, but riordan’s characterization of percy makes me enjoy it.

the battle of the labyrinth is my favorite of this series so far. i am excited to finish out the series and then read heroes of olympus.
