Well told story of a woman stolen into piracy and then slavery - the time runs from the 1760’s to five years after the Civil War. She lives in Africa, on a pirate ship, in the Caribbean, then into slavery in the United States. She learns languages, midwife and healing skills. She loves, she heals, she is treated poorly and fairly. She has a long and eventful life. Full of ups and downs.
