Mistaken Identity by Lisa Scottoline
2.0
I haven't read a lot of John Grisham's stuff, but everything I have read of his I found more enjoyable than Mistaken Identity. The pacing was too slow, I didn't bond with any of the characters, and the whole thing was too long (I skimmed through the last half). I didn't realize this was in the middle of a series of books about Bennie Rosato; I wonder if the rest of them are quite similar.
Still, it's easy to read, and if you like this sort of thing it will go fast and (possibly) satisfy your lawyer-thriller-mystery with a "surprise" reading need. My MIL found it "very good", so there's that.
One thing that irked me--every time a new character is introduced, I felt like a formula was being used to describe them. Take up a paragraph. Talk about the eyes, cheekbones, chin, other facial features. Mention their height. Throw in some other physical detail, possibly with a metaphor. Rinse, lather, repeat. I'll be giving it back to my MIL!
