Verity by Colleen Hoover

I know she has a lot of fans and this was my first book of hers, which I own because someone in the Kindle FB group recommended it and announced when it was available for free. It started out as an interesting story but it didn't go anywhere. She quickly gets over her mom's slow death from cancer and I expected that she may have some empathy or connection with Jeremy because of it, but there was none. She meets Jeremy by witnessing a horrific death yet that has no effect on her whatsoever. It's quickly dismissed. The book throws death around like it's no big deal and any character's reaction to death seems performative. The twist could have been exciting but it wasn't. It has all the elements for making a successful Lifetime movie. I suppose it could be pretty fun for someone looking for a quick, easy read but I'm not motivated to read any of her other books.
