As a fan of the author's past work, I was super excited to pick up her novel when it was published, and it was a solid debut! The characters dynamics were compelling, and the worldbuilding was unique. I love stories that take a common trope and do something new or subversive with it, so I found this take on soulmates interesting. I do wish we'd gotten to know Dekala a little better, and there was information hidden from us as readers at the end of the novel which I think ended up adding more confusion than suspense. For some reason, I also struggled to connect with the characters and the world through the audiobook, but when I switched to the ebook it clicked a lot better. Ultimately, I enjoyed this book a lot and I'm excited to see what else the author has in store!
