Beautiful Creatures by Margaret Stohl, Kami Garcia

5.0

I just finished reading Beautiful Creatures. It is written by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl. It takes place in a small town in South Carolina. This book is about a caster family who has lived under the curse of being claimed for light or dark on their sixteenth birthday. They do not have a choice in the matter. It is told by a mortal boy who falls in love with one of the members of the family. She falls in love with him too. Together they try to find a way to give her a choice on whether or not she goes light or dark.

I really liked this book. It was very suspenseful to the very end. I also like the deleted scene that was added at the end of the book. It was like they do in some movies. I thought that was pretty impressive. The recipes added were a nice touch too. I've always felt books that can make you feel what the characters are feeling are the best. This is definitely one of those books. I can not wait until I read the rest of this series.

I personally feel that this should have been written in more than one perspective. It was enlightening to see it in Ethan's point of view, but there were times I really would like to have seen Lena's point of view as well. I think it my have added some clarity to the whole story. It would of made the reader understand better. When I first started this book, I couldn't really get into it. I liked it okay, but it wasn't all that interesting. It picked up about midway and got really intense in the ending. I'm glad I stuck it out. I hope the rest of the series keeps picking up.

Honestly I would recommend this book to anybody who is interested in this kind of book. I didn't think I would say that at first. I thought I would give this a mediocre review, but I found myself becoming drawn into the series. I went from thinking it was an okay book to loving the series. I'm sure others will probably feel the same way.
