That was a very enjoyable, fast read!
This is yet another book to movie adaptation where the film builds on the book so beautifully that it makes it a tad better than the source material. Neil Gaiman created such a fun and spooky world and the film takes it and fleshes it out so wonderfully. Very slay, very excited to see this in theaters next week!
What a fun introduction to horror for young readers. The imagery is so vibrant and surprisingly scary sometimes.
I'm a little on the fence about whether or not the flaws of the main character (coraline) are a focus of the book. I think Coraline definitely learns that things aren't always greener on the other side and maybe even perhaps gains a greater appreciation for her life the way it is, though she does feel neglected in some ways. However, I think it's hard to say concretely whether or not it's a focus because she's also just a child with a child's mentality and I don't think her craving a world/reality where she felt totally seen is necessarily a flaw. Like we don't see her as the villain for engaging in the other world ? idk
