I Shall Never Fall in Love by Hari Conner

““(…) But this is simply the way of business. You have a woman’s heart—“
“For valuing human life and dignity over unused furniture? Then yes, I have a woman’s heart, and proud of it. You must think very little of your sex if you think them incapable of even the lowest, simplest sort of decency.””

“”I suppose everyone would make a fuss if you went out dressed like that— the vicar especially.”
“Because of… God?”
“Because he’d be terribly jealous at your looking more handsome and eligible than any of the men in the village~””

This is the type of graphic novel I had been looking for! I absolutely loved it! Definitely the best comic I’ve read this year and probably ever.
The illustrations were cozy, the story was wonderful, with characters lingering between who they loved and who they didn’t. But it wasn’t too dramatic as it happens with romance stories, especially ones set in this era.
The author had done a great deal of research, which I, the history fan I am, appreciated very much.
And of course - can’t forget about the enby protagonist! I loved George’s style, and I could relate to their struggles. The fear of expressing their real self but eventually overcoming that fear.
Basically - I need more stories like this one.
