*Review based on experiencing the book as an audiobook

I was nervous that I was going to dislike this book based on other reviews, but I’m so glad I didn’t give up on it. I absolutely fell in love with this story, especially when experienced as an audiobook. The story is told essentially through the stream of consciousness of a 15 year old boy, and at times his sidebars contain sidebars, so I recognize that it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. The charm of being able to actually hear the story told in this way, however, instead of just read, changes the whole experience and was part of what made it so enjoyable for me. This book made me think of so many of the stories I enjoyed in my middle school days, but I still easily enjoyed it as an adult.
