The Complete Maus by Art Spiegelman
5.0
This graphic novel really shows that Jews are also just human. No matter what pain they’ve gone through they’ve still got their daily problems and they can still be mean. Now, I don’t say this about all Jews and I’m not saying they’re worse people than others but this story shows that everyone is human. And people aren’t better than others only because they’ve endured unspeakable horrors and lived to tell the tale. Living through hell is awful but life can still continue being somewhat not so bad (sounds contradicting, I know) and daily problems will occur.
I just liked how casual the story of Vladek seemed to be even when he was persecuted and tortured by Nazis. Usually stories about the holocaust are dark and awful, and this wasn’t a children’s fairytale either but it was easier to relate to the main character. He seemed more human is what I mean.
This review looks kind of chaotic but those are just my thoughts.
