The Burnout Society by Byung-Chul Han
challenging
reflective
slow-paced
3.5
All-in-all pretty fascinating, but I gotta admit that philosophy isn't always my thing to begin with. The density is expected, but I felt it was a little repetitive at times. I'm not too well-trained at picking apart ideas presented this way, but I found some sections opaque.
Han's exploration and framework of our modern achievement-based society, in contrast with the those of conformity, presented a fun thing for me to chew on -- the concept of excesses in positivity and negativity are fascinating, but I suppose I wish that more of his arguments were grounded in real-life experiences.
Being pretty short (but not necessarily a quick read), I would recommend checking this out if you want a fresh perspective on the issues faced by many of us in the modern age.
