Profound. What more can I say about this beautiful book? Rob Delaney’s reflection of his son’s death is inherently raw and honest.

I have an incredibly low threshold for sadness and this exceeded the limit in the first ten pages. I have never cried so much reading a book before, but they were not all tears of sadness: Delaney’s hilarious and frank comments alongside the recounting of events provided some much-needed catharsis. I had to frequently pause for a few minutes between chapters to have a breather before diving back in.

Let’s read this to the government in our fight to save the NHS.

I do not have children, but this goes beyond that and addresses the wider scope of loss, relationships and people in general. The exploration of death and grief is so unfiltered; it forced me to reflect on my own experiences of loss and the experiences of those close to me.

I will recommend this to everyone I know and I will cry with them once they’ve read it.
