The Ghost of Eternal Polygamy: Haunting the Hearts and Heaven of Mormon Women and Men by Carol Lynn Pearson

4.0

Read this after it was mentioned on Mormon Stories podcast. Good review of the fact that polygamy is still alive and well in the Mormon church and causes a lot of grief and harm to marriages and families. Convincing narrative that it’s not a doctrine from God, but rather from men. Lots of storytelling that goes down smooth, even if it has a heavy dose of opinion and fantasy in the parts where she imagines what went through the minds of those involved.

The stories she received from readers were devastating. Most moving part of the book for sure.

Interesting that Pearson came to the other side of this and decided she still believed that Joseph Smith was a prophet. I couldn’t get to that same conclusion. But if you’re a believer, this is a nuanced view from another believer and well worth your time.
