My Plain Jane by Jodi Meadows, Brodi Ashton, Cynthia Hand
5.0
Initial Reaction: I absolutely adore this book! Yay!
Ive seen this book all over bookstagram and I'm so happy I decided to pick it up! At first I thought I would need to finish Jane Eyre first but no it wasnt a problem at all. Reading the classic did make book very fun as I figured the general plot but it did not rely on the classic it worked very well on its own.
There were many things that I enjoyed about this book but i loved the characters and the colloquial style. The characters were fun, smart and they played well off each other. My favorite character had to be Charlotte Brontë, yes the author of the classic novel is a character in the story and she's absolutely the best. Where she goes she has a pen and her notebook at the ready, as she is working on "writing (drum roll, please) her Very-First-Ever-Attempt-at-a-Novel." I also admired her tenacity in this book she had so many great lines as she kept the men in the book check 🙌
Now I'm having some difficulty with the rating as I found some flaws through the book. Unless I misunderstood the reasoning behind the deaths of certain people is a little wonky but I feel that I'm going to let it slide because this book made me laugh and cry! Job well done to the Janie Girls I became so attached to these character I wish there could be a spin off series based off of them!
