The Birchbark House by Louise Erdrich
5.0
I wasn't sure what to expect from this book. I had never heard of it, but once I started it I came to wonder why I hadn't. This book is beautiful in it's simplicity. I enjoyed the flow of the story and the characters; everything and everyone was written for a purpose that is evident now. I really grew to love Andeg and even Pinch too. The book was funny as well as heartbreaking but loveable all the same. Aside from my enjoyment I feel like I also learned something about Native American culture, I believe I am more aware of what happened and I'm little heart broken that it's taken me this long to learn about the treatment that Native Americans faced. Now I plan on keeping this book in a special place so that way I share it and teach it to my own children!
