I absolutely LOVED getting Gray's POV in this prequel novella to We Burn Beautiful. Gray and Kent's story has so much depth and complexity, so it was so nice to see where it all started here. But also, we have to see the pain, both physical and emotional, that they experience. Reading about it in We Burn Beautiful versus reading about it when it happens just hits different. The emotions hit so heavy here. The beginning of their friendship was so genuine and pure, but it became tainted as their emotions grew, and those around them didn't like where they were going. The religious trauma is very real here, but also something so many other queer people have had to struggle with. All that to say, this is such a beautiful and emotional story that gives the complicated background of Gray and Kent. It's definitely worth the read if you enjoyed We Burn Beautiful.
