I admit, I was hesitant to read this book because I’m not the biggest fan of Historial Fiction BUT I’m so glad that I gave it a chance.

This is a fictional account of the life of Hattie McDaniel, the first African-American to win an Academy Award. We’re introduced to her on the night of her historic win and it’s a page-turner from the very start.

Tate walks us through her life as she struggles to find her way in an unaccepting and racist Hollywood- facing devastating heartbreaks and career pitfalls. From her chaotic love life to the fight to stay in her prized home and create opportunities for Black Actors this is a dynamic story that will immerse you into 1940’s Hollywood.

This will be a book I’ll always recommend and remember.
