Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen
2.0
MOVIE UPDATE:
The movie was Fantastic!
at least 60 times better than the book, and even without comparing it to the book it's a wonderful movie.
** Marianne whom I hated in the book, I understood and sympathize with in the movie.
Book Review:
I picked up the book because a very dear friend of mine told me that in his opinion this is the best love story of all.
Okay, I did not utterly hate it.
but I did not enjoy it at all!
I don't care if this is the "Holy" Jane Austen or that this is a classic, it wasn't good, it simply wasn't.
Let's start with the Pros:
1) The idea is kinda nice. One sister is the Sense, the other is Sensibility. they teach each other what they lack and learn that a healthy love relationship must contain both: Sense and Sensibility.
2) There were cute moments where the sisters bond together or help each other or one sister defends her sister and it's so cute and realistic cuz that's how sisters are.
3) Elinor was just Perfection and not to brag or anything but I see myself in her. honestly if I were in any of the situations she was in I'd have acted the same way.
Cons:
1) There were way too many unnecessary characters and all the characters (main and side) were very One-dimensional. Every character had only on personality trait and that's it. that's all that was shown about. I hated that.
2) VERY slow-placed. Maybe it was partially my fault that I read it right after I finished Allegiant which is a fast-paced book, but still.. there were parts where nothing was happening. absolutely nothing, just people going on with their lives, having breakfast, having dinner, and playing piano. It felt so dragged on that I put it away more than once, each time for MONTHS!
3) Marianne oh Marianne.. now that girl was such a drama queen and she annoyed me almost every time she opened her big mouth. Yeah I understand that she's supposed to be the Sense and shit but ugh! I could not stand her.
4) The ending felt rushed and not quite written with care. Felt like the characters were matching aimlessly and rapidly and that the author just wanted to solve everything quick and give us that "happy ending". I could feel that the characters themselves were not satisfied with their endings. Poor them.
