This is my third Bukowski book and probably my favourite so far - now that his alter ego is married, just like Bukowski himself, the writing appears far more mature and restrained, and far less juvenile. A lot of the crass sexual violence which defines Bukowski’s earlier works is gone, which makes the reading experience far more enjoyable and allows the genius comedy to shine through. Docked a few points for the casual racism in the book, but overall a good read and only took a day to get through.
