I really wanted to like this, but the plot/character development felt like it kept skipping.  So many plot lines started and then dropped abruptly. Maybe they all get picked back up and developed in the next book, but it left me feeling ambivalent towards the characters since the plot trajectory kept changing before I could get attached or invested.
