That Sik Luv by Jescie Hall

3.0

This book was okay for me. the overall story could have been compelling if there weren’t info dumps, obvious insinuations early. It made the rest of the plot a little predictable.

I always get annoyed when these types of stories center around an 18 year old and the timeframe within the book SUCH a short span of time.

It’s definitely dark and the sex scenes weren’t incredibly repetitive but there were some repeated phrases throughout the book that annoyed me. And I cannot stand the phrase “ropes of c*m”. Immediately loses brownie points.

SPOILERS AHEAD - so beware reading further

Opening the story with a known stalker, parents out on mission work and big brother out didn’t make sense.

Some of the opening scenes with the stalker interactions were too similar to Haunting Adeline. The roses, the gun play, the chase through the house, the evening wear event. I feel like HA set a precedent and other stalker books need to work hard to be original and not repeat plot elements.

No, Aero is not Zade. He was a good character but as others have pointed out, the scene with the stripper showed a crack in his obsession but I think the rest of the book was able to make up for it.

Being 18, this girl had a huge set of events take place in only a week…. Maybe 2 weeks. Became some important church position, survived an explosion while being drown, attended a masquerade ball, witnessed molestation and a murder, lost her V card, trained to be an assassin, moved in with her stalker and took down dirty politicians while being a grade-a stripper.

Damn, I’m exhausted.

Typical stalker want it immediately get her pregnant. Is always annoying when this comment comes out bc I feel like it’s frequent but at least he didn’t and allowed her to stay on birth control. I suppose the breeding link goes hand-in-hand with a stalker story I suppose? Still it’s over done.

The epilogue seemed to go on forever. Like, we’ve finished the story and the epilogue seemed to be another 2 chapters. The only part that made sense was the very end of her dominating him but I feel the rest was waste.

All in all it was an entertaining read but it didn’t dazzle me.
