This story in which the presence of the formidable Great Aunt prevents the Amazons getting out and about causing trouble is nonetheless packed with exvitement. It particularly benefits from a varied cast of local supporting characters, brought to life with some wonderful dialect writing. Like all the best of Ransome's books, his obvious love for the locations and the people in them shines through.
