There's something so good with Kaaberbøl. Something about her writing style, her story telling, her character traits and life hidden in her books. It's so fun and intriguing to read anything and everything from her.
One thing I will always praise her for is he constant diversity. Always respect and POC characters in such a normal way, ways most people make obviously unnatural. Then there's the power dynamics, which she breaches in this new world. She's always generous in writing women, never shallow and pick me, or a man's toy. She writes women so well, where sadly most fantasy books fall short.
This would be a book (and auther) I would consistently trust in the hands of kids, I'd proudly recommend it, in hopes they'll feel love for this realisms in an otherwise Fantasyland.
Kids might not be old enough to comprehend and adults might skim it through because it's a kid book. But if you take Ur time and effort and focus it on this you'll see the way she writes is incredibly realistic, her characters, her land, her storytelling. Not shallow and superficial like most modern clichés.
She'll explain casual and real and it mostly passes you by, because you are stuck on the plot and the characters, I guess she's smooth with it.
One thing she does incredibly well is her epiphany way of writing feelings and thoughts.

- In her stomach a great beast turned, a beast of both fear and anger, with claws that tore and stabbed, and bristles that pricked. She knew that beast so well that she saw it clearly in her mind: It had a snout and fangs like a wild boar, and it was yellow. It lay in her belly like a child in its mother's womb and could not come out.
Like would you look at that, imagine being a child and not knowing ur own emotions.
And that's without talking about this specific book. The story is riveting, even as I'm an adult now, rereading my 3rd grade favourite book. The trauma Kat is served is severe, she's a badass and an icon forsure. It's not epic Fantasy but it's still attention grabbing. And to ofc remember how graciously backstory of the land is included.
The silver horse mythical explanation, the dynamics and character development, the drama??? Hello??? Sometimes i forget this is a kids book XD
I'm so looking forward to her journey and future.
