Red Seas Under Red Skies by Scott Lynch

5.0

An amazing sequel. After reading the first installment I was worried about how Lynch could top himself, and rightfully so because he didn’t. This book is not better than The Lies of Locke Lamora, but I love it just as much. Instead of trying to top himself Lynch instead changes almost everything he established in the first book. New setting, new conflicts, (mostly) new characters. It is a gamble that in my opinion pays off. I loved the first book in part for its non stop action, which is lacking in this book. However it is made up for with character interactions. After reading I feel even more invested in our main protagonists and I even became attached to brand new characters, something that didn’t happen to this degree in the first book. I look forward to reading the next installment, and pray Lynch finishes the other books quickly.
