Again the Magic by Lisa Kleypas
5.0
Again the Magic is a captivating historical romance that sets the stage for the Wallflowers series. It tells the stories of two sisters, Lady Aline Marsden and Lady Olivia Marsden, who find love in unexpected places. The main plot revolves around Lady Aline, who had a secret romance with McKenna, a stable boy, when they were young. Their relationship was doomed by her father, who threatened to destroy McKenna if they did not part ways. Aline made the ultimate sacrifice and lied to McKenna that she never loved him, hoping he would leave and pursue a better future. McKenna departed, wounded and furious, and swore to get back at Aline someday. Twelve years later, McKenna returned as a rich and influential tycoon, bent on making Aline suffer for breaking his heart. The story also follows her sister, Lady Olivia, who became a widow at a young age and led a dull and lonely life. She encountered Gideon Shaw, McKenna’s American associate, who was a charismatic and attractive scoundrel. Gideon was also a drunkard, haunted by his past demons. Olivia was attracted to Gideon, and he made her feel joyful and alive. The novel is a perfect mix of romance, drama, and humor, with compelling characters and a gratifying ending. It explores the themes of second chances, destiny, and redemption. The author skillfully creates a vivid and realistic setting of Victorian England, with its rigid social norms and class divisions. She also adds some surprising twists and turns to the plot, keeping the readers on their toes. I adored this novel, even though I read the whole series before I discovered this prequel. I wish I had read it in the right order, as it would have given me more insight into the characters in the following books. This book was my favorite out of all of them. It had amazing angst. The characters were flawlessly written to be flawed. I could not put the book down. It had love, sorrow, growth, and just the right amount of spice. If you are a fan of historical romance, you should definitely read this book. It will make you laugh, cry, and swoon. It will also make you appreciate the power of love and the magic of fate.
