The Gloom Between Stars by Piper C.J.

Did not finish book.
I made it 1200 (e-reader pages) before I decided I didn't want to suffer anymore. I know from social media that Piper cranks these books out at a pace that no one should be and it shows. I had hoped that now she is with Bloom it would have gotten better. To my dismay this was absolutely not the case.

This book is as verbose and over the top as the first two. It feels like someone who knows big words throwing them in place even when they don't fit. It feels like the editor was asleep while reading this and if anyone read it for sensitivity purposes (which I DOUBT) they should be fired.

Gloom does not recap what happened previously and it starts exactly where we left off. Nox has learned who her father is and is on the way to get Amaris back from his men as they took her away. Seems to be a theme here. We get a sex scene pretty early in and I'm only going to mention sex one other time in this review. Piper is so bad at writing sex scenes it's astounding that she was ever in SW.

There's a large battle with demons and should have been exiting and riveting but instead we have Nox trying to cross a river for literal pages. Amaris can't figure out her powers so she's useless. Malik discovers it's a fae controlling all the demons and takes her captive. Nothing on how the whip he uses is engraved or why that works to stop her. Oh well. Nox meets Ceres who seems after some convincing to believe who she is. Then he kills himself. Okay. No warning about this. Just all of a sudden he's done with his whole life and everything's a lie. Done. Yikes.

Then there is entirely too long of a section in Raascot. Everyone is mad or upset about something. Nox and Amaris aren't talking because Nox is totally convinced her feelings for Amaris are a lie. Cool cool. Then suddenly, she's banging Yazlyn all over the place. These sex scenes made me want to scoop my eyeballs out. There was literally a sentace about puddles in the bed. Good lord. I can't even make this up. The W/W sex scenes are so poorly written its just embarrassing.

Right before I gave up on the book, there was more on that fae that we conveniently captured. Turns out she's a racist! Piper has stated that this character is suffering from what she calls "religious trauma," but I'm just not buying it.

I gave up at this point because I lacked the motivation to continue torturing myself. I hate that this series is touted as a bi fantasy romance. It's awful. I won't be continuing, and really, I'm astounded I made it this far.
