After reading many of Shakespeare’s plays and sonnets, Venus and Adonis is a really refreshing change of pace. It’s a really light and easy read, despite being filled with unadulterated sorrow and grief. My one issue with this poem is no fault of Shakespeare’s - Venus as a goddess has in the past irritated me within the works of Homer and Virgil, and I also find her demeanour annoying in this poem.
