What It's About: Lor has accidentally made a catastrophic mistake with her magic and Nadir is paying the price. Turns out that perhaps the goddess, Zerra, is not all she’s cracked up to be. Just when Lor thought she was done with quests, Zerra goes and changes the goal posts, telling her that now she must retrieve the arks of Ouranos. Can’t a girl catch a break? Meanwhile, Nadir may or may not be dead, but he’s definitely in the Evanescense with two-sandwiches-short-of-a-picnic Zerra who somehow thinks she’s going to make him her husband. Not ideal. So we’ve got arks to steal and goddesses to escape, out of control magic to wield and awkward family dinners ahead. Fun!

General Thoughts: This book tidied up loose ends, but I didn't love it. The established relationship with Lor and Nadir didn't really sparkle for me as much as the banter in the earlier books, and a lot of the plot felt recycled either from earlier books or other series.

What I Enjoyed: I really do enjoy the world building in Nisha Tulli’s books, and this was no exception, with another Kingdom introduced for Lor to explore. Lightning Bug is MUCH better than Inmate (shudder). The throwback to the soap omg I cackled. Angel Gabriel, a delight as always, but really I needed far more of him and his little flirtations.

What I Struggled With: Lor is a little frustrating for the first part of the book. She knows her magic is out of control and yet she just goes throwing it around without a care in the world and then freaks out that people die. Girly, just stop. A repeat of deadly trials but this time with Lor and Nadir seemed a little like recycling a trope that had already been done in book 1 - I didn’t hate it but I didn’t love it either. I don’t know if I wasn’t paying attention, but I could not for the life of me work out why the Empyrian wanted Lor to be the next Zerra and not just the Heart Queen and it irked me all the way until almost the end of the book.

All in all, a satisfactory completion of the series. Solid 3 stars for this one and I would recommend Artefacts of Ouranos in general as a fun read with a mostly HEA.
