I reaaaaallly liked Keegan’s writing. A perfect blend of evocative without being too florid. It makes you feel like every word is chosen carefully. And I love short stories (and this is quite short, I’m not even certain it qualifies as a novelette, but tagging it that way because it is sold as such) that can pack a lot into so few words. I really felt for our little protagonist who felt for the first time what it was like to be cared for. A beautiful story with the essential darker undercurrent. The ending is maybe a bit too abrupt and vague but I was turning it in my head hours after being done so I think that’s a good thing. Really looking forward to reading more of Keegan’s stories.
