Fast Like a Girl: A Woman's Guide to Using the Healing Power of Fasting to Burn Fat, Boost Energy, and Balance Hormones by Mindy Pelz
informative
medium-paced
3.5
This book does offer some valuable insights; however, I think the structure could be improved to make the content more accessible. To me the book was broken up into (and presented in) these three main parts:
- The benefits of fasting for your body.
- How to align fasting with your menstrual cycle i.e. understanding how different hormones influence fasting, and adjusting your approach accordingly.
- Warnings for individuals who have experienced eating disorders, are currently pregnant, or have other specific health considerations.
I think these sections would be more effective if the topics were reordered. Starting with the content warnings would ensure that readers who need them are informed right away. Then, diving into the science behind fasting—particularly the hormonal impacts—would provide a solid foundation before concluding with the benefits of fasting.
Additionally, I listened to the audiobook version, and there were random bursts of music that interrupted some chapters, detracting from the overall listening experience.
Despite these issues, the book did offer me some new and interesting perspectives on fasting.
