Soirée for the Fifth of June is an incredibly innovative piece of theatre - it was far ahead of its time with its self-awareness and reflective nature, and is overall extremely well-constructed and cleverly executed. Because of its focus on being subversive and new, it lacks a fluid narrative or much of a structure at all, which makes it less enjoyable to read, but I’m sure that a stage performance of this would be far more engaging.
