Just as the team learns that Lenchester police force is combining with another division and not everyone will keep their job, an arsonist strikes, killing 2 students. This fire is quickly followed by another fatal fire, and it becomes clear that there is a serial arsonist at work in Lenchester. George is called in to help explain the type of person they may be looking for but they don't have a lot of clues to go on. As usual the book is tightly plotted with enough red herrings to keep the reader guessing. The relationship between Whitney and George has developed into a true friendship and they can now joke about their differences. Whitney is distracted by the upcoming merger and George manages to keep her on track. At the risk of giving spoilers I will stop here. I thoroughly enjoy this series and am eagerly awaiting the next book.

Mortal Remains by Sally Rigby is a great addition to the Cavendish and Walker series. It is at times intense but there are some good laughs along the way. We follow the investigation into a series of fires and the deaths involved. Great interaction between George and Whitney. It is a terrific read and I look forward to the next book in the series.
