Where music and spirituality meet, there stands Carlos Santana. This fascinating story gave me deeper appreciation for all he has done for the world. I found myself pulling up YouTube videos of various songs and artists he praises, to read while listening. And there is something about his “voice” that is so calming and real. I gained deep respect and gratitude for the man.

I’d give this one a solid 3.5 stars, mostly because I thought the first half was much more interesting than the second half.

Even though I don't own any Santana albums, my hobby of reading celebrity autobiographies led me to pick up this book. I really admire how spiritual Carlos Santana is without being religious, if that makes sense. After reading the book I HAD to pick up some Santa albums.

A powerful account of Carlos Santana’s journey from playing violin in the streets of Tijuana, Mexico, to Woodstalk, Africa and today. Spiritualism, culture, family and history come together to form an intimate account of music spanning generations and cultures. The book includes photographs and the audiobook is narrated by Carlos Santana himself; a recommended read any lover of music.

I really enjoy learning about others and why they do what they do. I already know, now that I’ve finished this, that I will pass this book around to local musicians I know and let them read it if they’re open to it.

But truly, I’d like to say thank you to Santana for sharing his story and for speaking his truths. There are a lot of wisdoms worth taking note within this biography. Makes me hope I get to meet him and his wife Cindy someday.
