The emotion that Banning Lyon manages to bring into this book is astounding. He is so clear in his writing throughout the book, he makes it easy to see where he is, what he’s going through and the feelings he has. I very seldomly have read anything, fiction or non-fiction on the level of this.

A very intense memoir. The author spent a traumatic year in a psychiatric hospital even though he wasn't sick. All due to messed up parents and an insurance fraud scheme. Took him many many years to process and heal. The outdoors was a big part of his recovery.
Not easy to hear his story. His courage and powers of forgiveness are incredible.

A masterpiece of reflection and resilience, Banning Lyon does a great job balancing vulnerability with empowerment throughout this book.
His personal anecdotes offer an in-depth look at the struggles and challenges he faced growing up—and continues to face to this day. The honesty and depth of his storytelling draw you in, making his journey feel both personal and universal.
This is more than just a book; it’s an experience. I usually avoid recommending books because everyone’s tastes differ, but I’ll gladly make an exception for this one

ALL THE STARS!!!!! This is one of the most beautiful and affecting memoirs I’ve ever read. It’s very hard to read at times, but also so life affirming. It will live in my head for a very long time.
