Considering the length of this audiobook, this is going to be a quick review. Now, my first gripe against this audio drama has nothing to do with the actual content... the problem comes in on the price. It's on Audible for 1 credit... for a 1 hour book...Considering I only get 1 or 2 credits a month, I just whiffed my entire reading limit in one gym go. Audible and the pricing of these things needs to take in consideration the length of the titles... I get it it's a big budget production but this is still VERY slim.

That being the book was good! (Yes I'm going to interchange the words book/audio drama). The two actresses Jeri Ryan and Michelle Hurd were fan-freaking-tastic. They both were heavily in character and really had room to express some emotions we don't get to see on screen. Their relationship while I feel started a bit out of no where and didn't really feel like it was natural... now that it is established, it's very well done. They get to have some tender quiet moments together, so it wasn't all boom boom action all the time. I loved that we got to get a peak into the Fenris rangers. Some new likable characters such as Hyro (Hiro?) who seems to be an eager member of the Rangers and has some good dialogue and banter with Raffi.

There's also a nice lead in about Picard asking Raffi (off screen) to rejoin Starfleet and basically saying she was pardoned.
I was hoping we'd get more of Raffi's son's relationship with her. That was a great story thread in season one, and I hope it's not lost in the shuffle.

Anyway we get a Romulan threat, someone using the fall of the empire and the loss of their planet to try to rise to power.

The only really downside in the book that I'd say I have is the choice of music...it swings between metal, guitars...and these ultra cheesy piano love ballad notes for when it gets romantic between Seven and Raffi... it's so over the top and cheesy it sounds like it's a South Park jab at touching moment themes. Also the audio needs to be mixed in better... it's abrupt and dramatic in when it starts and ends...It's used to shift between scenes so we know time passes...but it's not done very well... That being said it's not horrible but just sort of jarring.

Overall....it's...good...really well acted, story is good..but can I say go out and buy it? Umm... it's a lot.. it doesn't have anything in it that is required for the show... it's a nice interlude, but you can absolutely watch the show and not read this.. but if you like Trek, enjoy picard and know what you are and are not getting...go for it.

I loved the rest of the Picard series but this is a serious let down. The storyline is basic and the interactions between Raffi and Seven are more often than not cringey as hell. Such a shame.

This is a nice little bridge between seasons one and two of Picard that explores Seven and Raffi’s relationship.

This was sweet. The sound effects, dramatization, music and voice cast really brought it to life. I think the boom should have concentrated only on Raffi and Seven. The professor and Romulans seemed more a distraction. It would have been better to develop their relationship by having the two of them in more scenes together. Less fighting, more learning about one another like in the first scene.

Why is this so short?

I loved Raffi and Seven figuring out their relationship and I kinda wish I’d got to read this before Picard Season 2. But it’s fun and action-packed with some adorable moments as well as humour.

Great to hear Michelle Hurd and Jeri Ryan reprising their characters. They’ve got chemistry even in audio!

And Raffi’s reaction to Seven’s arrival on La Sirena was so sweet. Still needed this drama to be longer.

This was a great audio drama that could have been an excellent Star Trek episode.
I loved the focus on Raffi and Seven (something we never really got on ST: PIC) and thst it was an adventure away from Starfleet, which I'd also love to see more of. The central plot had just enough mystery, action, and feelings to be a fun romp and the ending was quite satisfying.

Somehow I missed the bit in the blurb telling me this was a script for an audio play, so that was a bit of a surprise, though not a bad one. Short and quick, this follows Seven and Raffi just after season one of Picard as they deal with saving artifacts and a senile historian from a Romulan…though it’s really more about the first steps of their relationship. Fun to read, and I’m somewhat tempted to find the audio production to see how some of the more visual elements of the script translate.

I don't normally enjoy audiobooks but this one was done really well. And I loved the story and getting more inside to Seven and Raffi's story.
