I need more books that revolve around Stevie's crime-solving journey. This book by itself is good. I think that even those who didn't read the Truly Devious series can understand the story.

I gave this book 4.5 stars because all the crime-solving things happened in the last chapter. We know that Stevie interviewed people and all but we didn't understand how she solves it. Yeah sure they explained it at the end but as a reader, I kinda want to be someone that can read Stevie's mind and not just an outsider.

I know people hate David before but I feel like he has character development in this book despite his short appearance time. Also, love Nate so much.

I've come to the conclusion I will pick up anything having to do with the Truly Devious Series. I am so deeply attached to these characters and am constantly wishing for more books in this series. That being said I loved seeing the Ellingham crew in a different setting such as a summer camp and being able to see Stevie work her detective magic again never fails to bring a smile to my face. I thoroughly enjoyed the build-up of this mystery and the reveal left me ferociously reading until 3 am.

It was so good being back with Stevie & the gang in this book! This story focuses on a new unsolved murder case -- The Box in the Woods -- which happened at a summer camp in the 1970s. While I didn't love this mystery as much as the Truly Devious case, it definitely had really spooky vibes. As always, I like how Maureen Johnson makes Stevie a real person, where she makes mistakes and has to deal with her anxiety. I like how everything came together in the end, and I'm really hoping we get to see more of Stevie & Co. for their second year at Ellingham.

WOW. How is Maureen Johnson so good at keeping me on my toes? There were audible gasps throughout this whole book, and it all led up to a big reveal I didn’t see coming! Excellent continuation of the Truly Devious novels, and perfect little mysteries. I loved all of the Nate content, and still really enjoy David (which is know is not a popular opinion).

I was a bit skeptical of a new Truly Devious book because it seemed like the series had ended. The Box in the Woods delivered on all of the things I enjoyed from earlier Truly Devious books. Johnson's writing is always so wonderfully atmospheric that I find myself hopelessly sucked in. Stevie continues to be a main character I love reading about. It was great to see her grapple with solving a mystery where the people of interest were still alive and able to be interviewed.

I really didn't care for the whodunit, which is the main reason I'm giving this 4.25 stars. It felt like some key clues were withheld from the reader until the big reveal.

The Box in the Woods is a true standalone novel. It hints at the mystery from prior books but doesn't give away any spoilers about how the mystery was solved or who did it. Stevie and her friends are introduced with enough details that you could easily get to know them if this was your first Truly Devious book. As a forgetful reader, I personally loved the little introductions that helped me remember who was who.

Overall, The Box in the Woods was a solid read that kept me racing to find out who happened. I hope we end up getting some more Truly Devious books.
