First off, the 70s Slasher-esque murder of this one is a huge escalation from the murders in first three books. So be prepared for that. The main reason this wasn’t a five star read like the first three is that things just wrapped up too fast and too conveniently. I felt like some things came out of nowhere at the wrap up
like it felt like the diary solved the case, not Stevie
, other things seemed to be left unsolved
like what happened to Michael Penhale? Did Todd actually do it? And on this note I felt like the main mystery should have been connected to the hit and run. I felt like we were constantly building up to that and then… nothing.
Also,
Patty’s role in her father’s murders seemed … odd. Maybe it’s just me, but what teenager upon finding out their dad is secretly an escaped Nazi war criminal would be cool with going along with the gruesome murder of 4 of her friends and her boyfriend? Idk, maybe Pattys relationship with her father just wasn’t developed enough for me to believe it
