Amazing new series from Lisa McMann! Great concept, but I think the first or second book was the best. Definitely directed towards a younger audience, but I probably read it in 2016-2017. I remember *loving* it so much then, so:

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐(5/5)

Would love to reread it at some point and see if I still enjoy it. However, the original Unwanteds was probably my favorite series by Lisa so far.

Full of lots of action and adventure based on a very extreme premise, periodic illustrations add to the story.

This is one of my favorite books ever! I loved it so much I chose it for my book club. I picked this up after my friend read it and told me the main character was so much like me, that it was creepy. And it really is! We both have Arizona roots, we both play soccer, we've both moved, we both have little brothers, etc. (Of course, I don't have a bracelet that gives me animal powers, but whatever.) Anyway, there was NEVER a dull moment in this book, never a page that wasn't written well. Even the parts most people find boring, like settling in at a new school and such, was interesting. Kelly was annoying, but that was her job, and I loved Maria's personality. I love the plot of this book, and I can't wait for the next book and the third book to come out. I can't even put into words how much I loved this book and how good it is. Most DEFINITELY read this book!

The Unwanteds series is very popular in my middle school library so I was excited to see a new series. Charlie and her family are moving from Chicago to Arizona and she is less than thrilled. Along with the new school/new friends/new jobs for parents Charlie also finds a bracelet that gives her special powers. The bracelet brings adventure and bad guys into her life. It is a great middle school read with elements of friendship and family as well as some action.

I asked a student to read it that only read the Warriors series, over and over. I thought the cat on the cover might trick her. She loved it and can't wait for the next installment. Kids will like this series. 4th grade and up.

Charlie is in a new environment with a new house, new school, new city, and on top of being the new girl, she becomes a new person. When she finds a mysterious bracelet she puts it on, only to not be able to get it off; this bracelet starts to give her super strengths, and all she wants is to be a normal kid again. Instead she uses her powers to do good around the community, and her school, until she starts being chased. The novel starts off super slow, but by the end the novel really takes off, the only problem is that it takes a little too long for anything really exciting to happen. What the slow start does allow is for the reader to get to know all the characters really well, and so they feel connected to them. The plot is really interesting and where it left off makes the second book sound like it will be very exciting and action packed.
