The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank is quite a powerful and insightful read. While she does talk about what it was like to hide from the Nazis, she also opened up about normal things that every teenager goes through in their lifetime.

The Diary of Anne Frank is a deeply important account of the Holocaust, especially in my opinion because it's written from a child's perspective, which is a unique perspective that should be more closely studied. Anne's thoughts range from tortured at the knowledge of the war's horrors, to the delight and confusion of adolescence, to boredom, to insightful observations and clever remarks. Remembering her brings gratitude to my life that I haven't personally experienced her plight, but more importantly her words are a reminder to prioritize resisting bigotry, ignorance, racism, and interpersonal hierarchy.

Best (or Worst) Moments: 
I really loved the moments in which Anne talked about her emotions and mental health. It only makes sense that a young girl in the prime of her life, who has been forced into hiding would feel panic and fear and suffer from periods of depression and I love how frank she was about her feelings. 

Was this Book What I Expected?: 
I watched the film years ago in school so kind of knew what to expect, but I love that Anne’s diary alongside illustrating her life in hiding, also outlines all of her emotions and her experience of puberty and development into mature teen. 

Review: 
I really like Anne’s writing. I find that non-fiction novels don’t usually engage me but Anne’s diary had me gripped. I listened to the audiobook narrated by Helena Bonham-Carter, which was really well done which further added to the experience. The diary was complex, sad, funny, ad delved deeply into relationships in close quarters. 

Things to Research Further 
I really enjoyed this book - would love to read more books about other individuals’ experiences of the war.

It almost feels inappropriate to give this book a rating; particularly with the simple "Anne's Diary Ends Here" denoting her family being captured by the Gestapo and her subsequent tragic death, but it is simply phenomenal. Frank is obviously not a professional writer, and hence there are stylistic issues I'd be more critical of if she was, but she has a vivacity that still shines through even when she is ranting about the other occupiers. Deducting a .25 star for the editing out of her bicuriosity, as it could've been such a useful resource for modern day people, seeing such a famous teenager experiencing the same as them. A must read for anyone.

I was surprised and so overjoyed to see the explorations of female sexuality, it wasn't what I expected to gain from this book.
