What a fantastic read! Intoxicate starts off with quite the bang. Two words are spoken: Marry Me. From the moment those words are uttered, you know you are in for quite a ride.
Intoxicate follows the story of Kalli and Xavier. Kalli has been in love with Xavier for the past 10 years, but has always been in the dreaded friend zone. No matter how hard she tried to prove that she should be seen as more than just a friend or little sister type, Xavier never noticed.....That is until now. Kalli is presented with an opportunity of a lifetime and is hoping that now Xavier will finally open his eyes and see what's always been in front of him.
Unbeknownst to Kalli, Xavier has always liked her, but the timing was never right. Now, that Kalli will spending the entire summer taking care of Lily, Xavier's daughter, things will get even more interesting. Try as he might, he can no longer deny the feelings that he's been keeping at bay for so long.....Everything seems perfect, until one day Xavier receives some news that turns his entire world upside down. He will do anything to keep his world from falling apart, even if that means accepting an unexpected proposal. There is only one rule to this "marriage": Don't Fall In Love! Sounds easy enough, right? What could possibly go wrong??
I loved the idea of this story. It's fun and exciting: two friends who are sorta dating, end up getting married to protect ones family...what could possibly go wrong?? Boy, was it ever fun finding out. I enjoyed every second of this book. I loved the push and pull between Xavier and Kalli. Xavier frustrated me so many times with his hot and cold tendencies, but I understand why. He's a good man and has been hurt before. He's been out of the game for such a long time and wants to do right by his daughter
Kalli....What an amazing woman. She was so patient and understanding. She never once gave up on Xavier, even when it seemed hopeless. She knew just when to give him the push that he needed. The chemistry between the two of them was explosive and I just couldn't wait for the two of them to give in to what everyone already knew. And the anticipation was totally worth it.
This book had the perfect amount of steam, romance, angst and anticipation. Intoxicate is another great hit for author Tessa Teevan. The characters were enjoyable and easy to relate to. I loved that we got to spend a little more time with Kale and Lucy as well. If you're looking for a sweet quick read that is light on the drama, but will make you laugh, swoon and frustrate you, look no further. I'm a big fan of this series and look forward to reading more in the future.

I've been eager to get my hands onXavier Intoxicate since Tessa started teasing us with his book on Facebook. I knew him, of course, as Kale's friend and from his appearances in previous books in the series. I was intrigued by him and looked forward to getting his whole story. Add in a romance pact with his friend's sister Kalli and I was even more anxious to read this book.
I never fail to fall hopelessly in love with Tessa's characters – both the men and the women. Of course, already being familiar with Xavier and Kalli helped speed the process up a bit, too. Kalli is my favorite type of female in books. She's strong, smart, determined and has a heart of gold. It was apparent to everyone she'd been crushing on Xavier for a long time, so I couldn't help but root for them. I loved her relationship with Xavier's daughter and Lucy, her brother's girlfriend.
Xavier was a complicated guy, and at times it was a bit hard to like him. I know his walls were up and his daughter is his main concern, but it hurt me the way he talked to Kalli at times. It was so apparent that he loved her, so it was pretty bad when he tried to push her away. He was definitely moody as hell. But, underneath all that, he was a great guy. Sometimes he just spoke before he thought. I guess we can probably all relate. He was pretty freaking swoony when you got right down to it. He just came with some baggage.
I love the fake relationship trope. They took it to a whole new level here with the fake-n0t fake marriage. I mean, the marriage served a purpose, but I think what it did most was just give Kalli and Xavier an excuse to be with each other, while giving them an "out" because it wasn't real. I'm ok with that. The time they spent together made any of the fake vibes disappear pretty quickly. It was obvious these two belonged together. Everyone knew it but them.
Intoxicate was a great addition to the Explosive series. I loved seeing more of Kale and Lucy, and the rest of the Montgomery clan. I loved that Xavier was a single dad, even if the baby mama did manage to bring some drama towards the end. This book was sexy and sweet. It was a quick read that I enjoyed so very much. Now I can go back to chomping at the bit, waiting for the fifth book and Kaylie's story. I love what I know about that girl already. I can't wait for more of her and her perfect match.

Every time a new book in this series releases I get school girl giddy about them. I'm a sucker for a military man and Tessa Teevan writes the best of them. It doesn't hurt that I spent 4 years living at Fort Campbell, where the book is based. I really liked this one in particular though.
Honestly I can't say that I felt one way or another about Xavier prior to reading his story but, make no mistake, I'm a big fan now. I have to say the fact that he is such a good father to Lily and always puts her first is a huge turn-on. Throw him in a uniform and I'm a goner. He's sweet and kind, hard-working and caring on top of all that. Sawooon!!
This book was told in alternating POV's and sometimes that can be hard to pull off, but I think this was done well. Kalli's POV came off a little more playful because of her personality but I enjoyed Xavier's a little more. He's a bit more serious and brooding, but you could totally feel the love he had for both his family and friends, but especially for Kalli.
I love the way that Tessa wrote it as a re-telling of their story to their friends and family and easily transitioned into the present and future. It made the story flow really well.
This was another successful mission in the Explosive series and you shouldn't hesitate to read it ASAP.

I was so excited to start this book but i have to say I'm disappointed :(
The way Xavier kept going back and forth with what he wanted/feeling drove me nuts!!
This book was at a 4.5 around the 65% and just kept going down. But it was a cute story nothing like i was expecting.

A marriage proposal with a pact to not fall in love…that alone made this story a must read for me. Kalli Montgomery has been love with her brother’s best friend, Xavier Cruz since they met over a decade ago. Xavier had an interest for Kalli until he found out her real age and could only see her has his little sister.
Years later and moving to start a life and to live closer to her siblings Kalli agrees to spend the summer taking care of Lily and is determined to make herself known to Xavier. But is the proposal enough for him to see past everything and to become more?
“How do you know it’s me you want? Not the guy with the cute little girl that you love so much?” “Because from the moment I met you, my heart started to flutter. And it’s never stopped.” I admit without pause, opting for complete and total honesty this time.
Being a single father unexpected possibilities comes into light making his need to keep his family together but is getting married and being in a platonic relationship going to work?
“I could love you.” Those words are truer now than they were two hours ago, and I have to fight the urge to say them again. Because the way I feel now? It’s more than infatuation. It’s more than just primal want or need. It’s just…so much more.
This story is the first book I have read from this series and it was one that I thoroughly enjoyed. A single dad raising his daughter on his own is one of the reasons that makes this story HOT! Then there is the need/want that was off the charts all over the place making the read so much more than I had expected for two people who have been holding out from one another for all these years. This 5 stars reads will have you fall deep for both Xavier and Kalli.

"What could possibly go wrong?" Famous last words. When I read them it made me nervous. Because what could go wrong? Just about everything and anything.
If you've read any of Tessa's books you know that she can write awesome men. She even managed to turn one of her worst characters (See Branson in "Conflagration") into one of my favorites. But Xavier? Good lord, Tessa outdid herself this time. He's a single dad who has committed his life to raising his daughter. SWOON.
The book opens after Kalli and Xavier secretly get married in Vegas. The next morning the rest of the gang finds out, which results in Kalli and Xavier telling the story of how two people who have been holding back their feelings for each other for TEN YEARS (in fairness to Xavier, Kalli was only 16 when the first met), ended up married.
And it is an amazing story. It's a story about relationships. Xavier's relationship with his mother, who dropped everything to help him raise his daughter. It's about his relationship with his daughter Lily. I basically melted every time those two interacted. Kalli's relationship with Lily. And of course his relationship with Kalli. Xavier is the real deal y'all. He's sweet, patient, caring, loyal, passionate, a good friend, and a fantastic father. Oh and also a bit of a dirty talker, which is always good. And when he does it in Spanish...YOWZA!! Towards the end of the book Xavier reflects on his "aha!" moments and I found them to be a very good summary of the man himself:
And then a little later in the book:
Going back to that original question of "What could possibly go wrong?" Surprisingly, not much. Yes, there was a little hiccup in their relationship, but it was dealt with pretty quickly. Besides that, this book was pretty drama free, which was very refreshing. Yes, I love me an angsty, drama filled story, but it is nice to have a practically drama free read.

You know that commercial where people are reliving that “aha!”moment in their lives when everything changed? The sweet epiphany that has the sun looking brighter, the sky bluer, and all your senses heightened?
I’ve been lucky enough to experience two of those moments in my lifetime. The first was when Lily was placed in my arms when she was only minutes old. Staring down into the face of this beautiful, scary, hopeful tiny little being who was counting on me changed my life forever, and it’s been evolving ever since.
The second? The second aha moment of my life was when I finally told the woman of my dreams just how much I love her. It wasn’t enough that I’d admitted it to Kale already. She needed to hear them, and I needed to say them. As soon as the words escaped my lips, it was as if years of pent-up frustration, want, and need melted away, leaving me to wonder why in the hell I’d fought it for as long as I had.
And then a little later in the book:
Until I met Kalli, I wasn’t living. I was only existing. Even though I tried to resist, she came into my life and awoke emotions in me that had been so dormant I had no longer known I’d possessed them. Slowly but surely, she crept in and took hold of my heart, bringing it back to life.
And this is when I have my third aha moment. Sometimes, it’s okay for love to be selfish. Possessive. Mine certainly is when it comes to my wife.
Going back to that original question of "What could possibly go wrong?" Surprisingly, not much. Yes, there was a little hiccup in their relationship, but it was dealt with pretty quickly.
