oof thia was a tough one but also so good 
because eve is so good

AND SHE TOLD MR. MIRA AND I ALMOST CRIED ON THE TRAIN CAUSE IT TOOK ME BY SURPRISE

At first you think that the title hints at Dennis and Edward's brotherly relationship, and while it does, it's about something else that takes centre stage. I love how there are double meanings in the titles.

The investigation went as well as you'd expect, with Peabody's side comments for comic relief, which is very welcome. This one might not be as gory as Devoted, but Brotherhood can be difficult to read, or at least to wrap your head around the heinous crimes that went unpunished for decades. Peabody and Trueheart were my angst-free islands in this book. 

It's fun to see Trueheart as a detective now, and listening to the audiobook, I like to think that I can hear Eve's pride in calling him "detective" instead of "officer." She usually calls her detectives just by their last name but it's "Detective Trueheart" in this book lol.

I fall into these books. I enjoy the ensemble cast around Eve. I am drawn to the dark and twisty of the stories and to Eve's personal back story. 

 

Early in in this one I found myself squinting at the page a bit with that feeling that someone else wrote it.  Like....Someone using Eve's voice in a way that .... rubbed me the wrong way. Someone super judgey about adultery.  Not that I'm a fan of adultery but....it takes two to tango and The shitty way Eve and other characters talk about women in this one early on is really odd feeling to me. WTF? 

 

I thought it might come 'round ....due to what happens in the book but .... nope... Eve can feel for the women, but the way they were spoken of earlier is never acknowledged. 

 

Bugs me. 

 

That said, I will return again to this world and these characters.
