Surprisingly heteronormative for a space opera written in 2011. The social norms and casual sexism are very 90s (some men write women beautifully, these authors write beautiful women).
Well paced and a good number of characters for an ensemble.
The authors write intimately about body horror, but not intimacy. The implied sex scene was odd, like they were contractually obliged to include one but did not feel comfortable writing about it.
The narrative flow worked well; unlike the (lack of) one in this review.
