"You are mine, mo krrá. The same way that I am yours. From now until the end of time."
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️/5
What To Expect:
✔️ He falls first
✔️ Touch her and die
✔️ Fated mates
✔️ Twists and betrayals
What It's About:
Fallon has previously made some poor decisions based on childhood infatuation and not being in possession of all the facts. She continues to do so. Lorcan is (mostly) no longer a statue-smoke-crow-man and is now mostly a red blooded Crow King. Dante continues his mission to show that his true colours are asshole with a side of betrayer. Phoebus wins the award for friend I'd most like to have. There's some stuff about changelings and parents and a new side-quest or 3, but mostly this book is about having a guilt-free romp through a delightful romance. Does the plot progress? Barely. Did I care? Not a bit.
What I Enjoyed:
Everything that came out of Lore's mouth whilst trying to persuade Fallon that he's far and away the superior King around here. The banter. Lore being a possessive asshole. Fallon pushing all of Lore's buttons. Phoebus, always and forever.
What I Struggled With:
The fact that Fallon went from "Absolutely not, never, I loathe you. But you are pretty hot..." bantering to not even bothering with the snark made me sad. I feel as though maybe there needs to be less fated mates and more making an effort lol.
Still really enjoy the author's writing style, even with minimal plot. Just try not to think to hard about things and you'll have much more fun with these! Looking forward to some new idiot quests for Fallon in book 3 and just hoping that Lore brings the aggressively suggestive banter back.

I felt like nothing happened in this book. It was all just waiting and living with the repercussions of the last book. Fallon is childish and rude for most of the book. Lorcan is an ass who excludes her from everything he does and then taunts her. This book could’ve been shortened to 50-100 pages and then the plot could’ve actually progressed. Nothing plot wise happens until literally the last chapter. I was really exited for this series because I love the concept of the crows but this book was not a favorite of mine. Hopefully the next book will save the series.

Rounded up from 3.5 stars. Wow - I did not see that twist coming!
As another reviewer said, where the first book was all plot and exposition, this sequel definitely prioritizes character development. This would have been an enjoyable change of pace had Fallon not remained such a brat most of the time. I have no idea what happened to her growth at the end of the last book, but she's back to being immature. She's just not a strong character & I don't find her particularly enjoyable.
That being said, I am still enjoying the world-building. The atmosphere of medieval Italian kingdoms and the magic of Celtic folklore are a great combination. I think the overall story arc is engaging, even though there is significantly less action and plot in book two, which is typical of trilogies.
I just hope Fallon gets a significant personality transplant and the plot kicks it up a notch in terms of speed in the next book. From how this installment ended, I hope both of those things will happen.
Lorcan quotes:
“ I don’t like touching people, and I don’t like being touched.” “ Could’ve fooled me. About the touching people part.”[…] “I don’t touch people, Behack Éan. I touch you. “I am people.” “You are not people.” His throat dips. “You are my…crow”.
“I think I’m dying.” “Would I ever let that happen?” “You may control many things, Lorcan Ríhbiadh, but you surely cannot control the rhythm of my heart.” “I control all that belongs to me, Behach Éan.” “My heart belongs to you?” “It’s always belonged to me. I’m hoping that soon you’ll understand this, so you stop wasting its precious beats on males who aren’t me.”

I just don't know.
Is it the second book curse or is it me?
Maybe it's going to end with a bang.
I'll give a 4⭐ but only because of him.
