We really love all the Bear books we have read so far, and this one was no different.
After hibernation Bear is very hungry! He visits with a few friends that help him find some things to eat, but he eats a little too much and gets stuck in his cave entrance. We are very familiar with the more famous bear who gets stuck after over eating, so my kids appreciated seeing that idea again and relating the two.
All of the Bear book illustrations are just too cute. The softness makes the animals irresistibly adorable. And the use of rich colors is engaging.

This is a great book for Spring. Bear wakes up from hibernation. Good is the first thing in his mind. It's also the second, third, and fourth thing. He finds some food on his own. Varies animals are also having lunch. Each of them invite Bear to join them. There's laughter (and hunger!) from place to place. I adore the illustration by Jane Chapman. It has a soft and flowing design that is pleasing to the eye.

This is almost too adorable; it really has to be read to young children so that adults can appreciate the story too. The bear has the most innocent facial expression and manner. The rhyming and repetitive story is great for picture book age children and the illustrations convey a lushness I liked, and I thought the bear was painted well, but I wasn’t so wild about some of the other animals’ appearances.

Brief summary - Bear wakes up and is hungry and each of his friends help him find something to eat until he can't even fit back into his own cave. Then all of his friends want more
Annotation - This story is a great read aloud with each animal who finds bear and really wants to find him something to eat since he is so hungry.
Age appropriateness 0-7
Connection to six early literacy skills
This is great for many different literacy skills but I like it for narrative skill because it builds up each time with each animal finding him a something yummy to eat.
Five practices
Great book for reading since it really entices the reader to want to know what is going to happen next.
Opinion - I like this book so much because it has an easy reading style that is enhanced by great illustrations. The story really tells about friendship and kindness.

Bear wakes up after hibernating and is very hungry. He eats several things, but always wants "more." His friends throw him a party and bear finally gets enough, but his friends are left wanting ____. Went over fairly well at my spring story time, with the repeating refrain.

In this 2003 sequel to BEAR SNORES ON, Bear wakes from hibernation with an insatiable appetite, his animal pals appear one or two at a time to help gather grub, and the whole adventure ends with party back at the lair. So, similar story arch and adorable pictures and cutesy rhymes as the predecessor, but this time with plot points borrowed liberally from the early chapters of WINNIE-THE-POOH, and overall kind of disappointing by comparison.
Good choice for preschool story time programs built around a spring, food, bears, animals, or friends theme.

Doesn't displace Bear Snores On as my favorite, but this is pretty good, too.
