The seven deadly sins are people in this book. Someone is killing witches and an old prophecy is being set into motion. After Emilia’s sister is murdered, she sets out to find the killer. She summons a prince of hell (hot) and crosses paths with a few more of them.

The main characters are postitioned against the local church and a religious brotherhood. There are portrayals of people driven mad by magic, displaying signs similar to certain types of schizophrenia. These people are positioned as victims, and are not regarded with kindness from all. There is a relationship between an 18 year old and an ancient demon. There is a lot of sexism from the religious order towards witches and women in general. There is a moderately graphic description of evisceration. Mild sexual content, nothing further than intense kissing. Blood in rituals. Loss of a close family member and multiple forms of grief associated with that. Two brief but lightly graphic torture scenes.rtjasa's review against another edition

Right from the start I was completely sucked into this book. I just think the atmosphere in this book is incredibly. It has the perfect witchy vibes, and it was so easy to feel pulled into every single scene. I just think atmosphere wise this was incredibly well written. I also quite liked this world. We definitely have only scraped the surface with the world building, as it's clear lots of side characters are keeping things from our main character, but it was done in a way that was incredibly intriguing instead of frustrating.
I also just adored Emilia. I thought she was a great main character. She's very strong minded, and doesn't take shit from anybody. I loved how she was such a go getter, and knew how to stand up for herself. Her journey with her grief over her sister's death was also incredibly well done. The way she let's it motivate her instead of bringing her down was just really well done.
I don't know how to feel about Wrath just yet. I feel like in this book we don't get a whole lot of him, and he's definitely holding back when we do see him so I don't 100% know what to think of him just yet. I just don't have a full grasp on him yet. However, I do think he's an interesting character, and I love his dynamic with Emilia. I can't wait to see all of that grow in the next two books.
The plot was also great. I was just really invested in everything happening, and constantly on the edge of my seat. I just had so much fun reading this book. There were definitely some twists and turns I didn't really see coming. There were also some I definitely did see coming, but the way the reveals were executed just still had me gagged. I just felt so sucked into the moment that I found my jaw still dropping despite thinking "duh, I figured this out a while ago". I don't know. I just loved it. The ending was also a bit of a cliffhanger, and now I absolutely can't wait to read book two.

Overall: 4.5/5 stars
Spice: 0.5/5 (kissing and some descriptive language) this ramps up in book two!
The only reason I removed half a star was because the ending felt rushed. Other than then that unbelievably good read!
