I was falling into a bit of a reading slump but this pulled me right back out. I put off reading this for a few years because I hate the cover art. So long that I forgot the synopsis and didn’t even realize it’s about witches. Love.

The seven deadly sins are people in this book. Someone is killing witches and an old prophecy is being set into motion. After Emilia’s sister is murdered, she sets out to find the killer. She summons a prince of hell (hot) and crosses paths with a few more of them.

I enjoyed the FMC, she was clever and wasn't constantly plagued with indecision. She was committed to her goal and wasn't going to let anything even morals get in her way.

Demon daddy best daddy but also the world building and power scaling and magic system seem like they can really be cool and well done. I'm excited to see where this goes. Great set up for a series.

My first dark fantasy, this was also a murder mystery, filled with witches, demons, spells and magic. I loved the Italian backdrop and am fully invested in getting Emilia to figure out who killed her sister and see what happens in the underworld!

I like the setup and premise. The mystery was fun, if a bit predictable. Don't read read this book when hungry, I kept wanting Italian food after every reading session! My biggest concern was towards the end I got confused on character motivations but hopefully that is explored in the next book.

Kingdom of the Wicked is a lot of fun. It intertwines familiar aspects of Catholicism with a new twist with the sins as Princes of Hell. While the magic system could have been fleshed out further, it felt more balanced than many others, showing some of the consequences of using too much power. The banter was bantering for sure. The more tender moments were very sweet, and I can't wait to see how the relationships develop in the sequels. It's fairly obvious who the original enemy is, but there were enough twists and turns and additions along the way that it didn't matter as much that that was predictable.

The premise is unique and interesting and the writing isn’t bad, sometines even enjoyable, but I feel like the delivery of the plot is lacking? I don’t feel anything, I was waiting for the book to end. Idk if I am just not paying attention but I haven’t had this happen with other books so I doubt that’s it? I was excited for the series and the last 10 chapters were better, I even thought the ending was done well, but I literally don’t give a fuck about any of the characters like I’m just not invested. I was excited about this series so I promised myself to finish the 1st book, but I wanted to stop reading so many times. There are good moments and I feel bad rating it this low, but 3 or higher for me are books I at least semi enjoyed and the few moments where I felt their chemistry just don’t make up for me being bored:( I might feel a bit bitter because I was intrigued by the premise and had quite high expectations (I mean witches? Demons? Twins? Murder mystery? Italian food? Palermo?) 🙁

The switch is between dark fantasy and romance are often times jarring and throw you out of the story, because one second they'll be investigating a brutal murder where a girl literally had her heart ripped from her chest and then one page later they're out like it's a normal Sunday having a cute little get together and date thing,
