And thus concludes the main series for the Witcher. Firstly, I thought the series was wonderfully classic fantasy with its elves and monsters and dwarves and gnomes. I think too many authors these days eschew these tropes for more science fiction-y weirdness so this was a welcome return to the world of more traditional fantasy tropes. Second, I thought the characterization and worldbuilding was really wonderful. I wish we were given more of Geralt and especially Yennefer than the series gave us. Sometimes the plot structure felt too complicated for its own good and it did have the tendency to drag in places. I thought the ending was a little strange and a bit of a disappointment. The ambiguity is interesting but it felt anticlimactic. I’m not a fan of major characters dying to minor incidents—it’s always unsatisfying. But all in all, I am excited to keep going with the tv series and replay the games. An amazing, 5/5 series.

Not going to lie, I was really confused when I started reading this book. It slowly started to make sense the more I read it, but it took a little while. The world-building was absolutely amazing and there were so many characters from previous books that were brought back in to the story. At times, it was a bit overwhelming trying to remember everything, and I definitely think you need to pay attention when you're reading lol. I did really love the story, but I found that there were a few chapters of the book that I really did just have to slug through. I've found that happened with some of the other novels in this series too, where there are times of really fast paced action, but then followed by a quite slow chapter or two. The ending was mind-blowing and I definitely think that I'll have to re-read the book again just to make sure that I fully understand everything (since I know I did miss some things). Overall, a very climatic ending to this series!
