Don't expect too many details, but this is good introduction and overview of the American Civil War for someone who doesn't know much. Each year of the conflict is given a short chronological summary, but the story is mostly told through excellent illustrations and individual memoirs and letters, describing the hardships of life in the field, POWs, hospitals, disease, burial of the dead and everything in between.

I'll definitely be reading a lot more on this subject.
