Such a wonderful story about a young orphan. [a:Gene Stratton-Porter|1372693|Gene Stratton-Porter|http://photo.goodreads.com/authors/1238819887p2/1372693.jpg] was such a wonderful author and [a:Joe Wheeler|5398607|Joe Wheeler|http://www.goodreads.com/images/nophoto/nophoto-U-50x66.jpg]s introduction was such a great thing to read before starting the story.

This was one of my father's favorite books growing up and one of the few things I have of his is the copy he read as a boy

Wonderful story, and better than Girl of the Limberlost. I laughed. I cried. I loved it!

Touching and quaint, but a bit over-sentimentalized in many sections. I would have enjoyed this more if the author had been slightly more restrained.
